Noah Boudreaux: A 3-Step Plan to Turn AI from Buzzword to Business Value
Read the Full Article on CXO DispatchI shared my perspective with CXO Dispatch because I kept seeing the same pattern: organizations excited about AI but stuck in pilot purgatory. They had the tools, the budget, and the executive sponsorship, but they could not translate any of it into measurable business outcomes. The 3-step plan was my attempt to give leaders a clear path from experimentation to value creation.
Key Takeaways
Step one is always the same: solve the problem before choosing the technology. Most failed AI initiatives start with 'we should use AI for something' rather than 'here is a specific problem that AI is uniquely suited to solve.'
Anchoring AI in business strategy means asking whether AI is meant to drive efficiency, open new markets, or both. The real value is rarely in cost reduction alone. It is in new capabilities that were previously impossible.
AI alone is not the strategy. Enabling AI unlocks possibilities. The distinction matters because it keeps leaders focused on outcomes rather than technology adoption as an end in itself.
What I Would Add Today
The three steps remain valid, but the execution environment has changed dramatically. In 2024, the challenge was getting started. In 2026, the challenge is scaling what works and shutting down what does not. I would add a fourth step today: build the feedback loops that let you measure AI value continuously, not just at the end of a pilot. The organizations I advise through The Intelligent Organization framework are now focused on operationalizing AI, moving from 'we have AI' to 'AI is how we work.' That transition requires the operational discipline these three steps provide, applied at scale.
